Understanding Your Due Date
Everything you need to know about pregnancy dating
How is Due Date Calculated?
The standard method adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period. This is called Naegele's Rule and is used by doctors worldwide.
How Accurate Is It?
Only about 5% of babies arrive on their exact due date. Most babies arrive within two weeks either side. Your due date is an estimate โ not a deadline!
What Are Trimesters?
Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters. The first is weeks 1โ12, the second is weeks 13โ26, and the third trimester runs from week 27 to birth at around week 40.
When to See a Doctor
Always confirm your due date with your doctor or midwife. An early ultrasound is the most accurate way to date your pregnancy and should be your primary reference.
